Tom Ford Makes A Film, Whoopy Doo

tom ford is basically a modern-day renaissance man - whole day he’ll make a in holy matrimony of trousers, the next he’ll make, dunno, a sweater or something. but tom ford isn’t a man who restricts himself to only making things for rich image-conscious idiots to clothed in. no, now he’s unquestionable to turn his hand to making things for rich impression-conscious idiots to sit and slowly fall asleep to and then wake up and pretend to have enjoyed because it makes them look clever. that’s right - tom ford is making a movie. apparently tom ford has adapted the novel a single man into a movie, and he’s managed to get julianne moore and colin firth to star in it. we don’t know if a single man will be good yet, but we harbour it largely depends on his solve - at some thought he’s bound to crack and give victoria beckham a part in it, and how large that limited share in is will determine how many teeth we’ll smash out with our shoe if we ever have to supervise it.

MTV Finally Brings Back Jesse Camp

photo: patrick mcmullan

MTV is sending off TRL in high style with a big two-hour special next month called Total Finale Live, featuring a bunch of radio acts along with host Carson Daly (he somehow found the time). But much more important, they’re bringing Jesse Camp back! If you’ll recall, Camp became a hero to all when he won MTV’s “Wanna Be a VJ” contest in 1998 despite being a gangly scarecrow-looking dude who could barely talk. And we are now that much closer to a Jesse & the 8th Street Kidz reunion. [MTV]

LeBron James: About to go atomic?

atomic

well…boston was a nice place…

I was a little, shall we say, confused by a statement LeBron made in the preview for tonight’s Cavs-Celtics game: “I know I’ve improved five times than I was in Game 7 of the Boston series.”Forget the clumsy sentence structure — the kid didn’t go to college, after all — and let’s concentrate on the math instead. Five times better than this game, LeBron? Really?! Well I, for one, cannot wait to watch King James drop a 225-point, 25-rebound, 30-assist bomb on the greater Boston area. (I do mean a metaphorical bomb, by the way.) Still, I can’t help but wonder how LeBron could have possibly gotten so much better during the offseason. Especially since he couldn’t even win a game of HORSE against a 26-year-old warehouse worker during that time.

Perry Farrell Is Out for Blood

1. Perry Farrell, “Go All the Way (Into the Twilight)” For the teen-vampire movie Twilight, Perry Farrell (formerly of Jane’s Addiction for those of you who weren’t born when the band broke up) tells us “tonight, lightning strikes.” After hearing this song (and the bizarre half-rap in the middle), we sincerely hope it strikes only once. [StephanieMeyer.com]

2. Kanye West, “Robocop” At last, a track for which Auto-Tune actually makes sense: one about a robot. [We All Want Someone to Shout For]

3. Rob Zombie, “Warzone” Simply not content to let Perry Farrell be the only aging rock star contributing subpar material to questionable soundtracks, Zombie turns in a song from the upcoming Punisher movie. [Punisher Official Site]

4. Rivers Cuomo, “I Want to Take You Home Tonight” On this four-track demo (allegedly from yet another outtakes collection from the Weezer front man), Cuomo offers to take you back to his place, let’s hope not to listen to more four-track demos. [Pitchfork]

5. Atlas Sound, “Danse Macabre” Atlas Sound’s Bradford Cox (also of Deerhunter) has a few more treats for his fans this Halloween. We guess the trick is that there’s nothing particularly macabre about this awesome new track. [Gorilla vs. Bear]

Banks Using $700 Billion Bailout To Buy Other Banks, Not Make More Loans [Swindles]

washington told taxpayers a major rationale for us to fork over $700 billion to banks was to save the american concision by making loans more accessible, but it looks in the mood for at least at chase they to some extent use it to buy other banks, nyt reports.

Times reporter Joe Nocera listened in on a Chase employee-only conference call and one employee asked, “Chase recently received $25 billion in federal funding. What effect will that have on the business side and will it change our strategic lending policy?”

Sunday night football oct 26

Translation: When are we going to start making loans? The executive moderator replied:

twenty-five billion dollars is obviously going to help the folks who are struggling more than chase.. what we do ponder it will help us do is dialect mayhap be a little bit more active on the acquisition side or opportunistic side for some banks who are up till struggling. and i would not assume that we are done on the acquisition side just because of the washington mutual and hold out stearns mergers. i remember there are universal to be some great opportunities conducive to us to grow in this mise en scene, and i of we organize an possibility to use that $25 billion in that way and obviously depending on whether recession turns into depression or what happens in the to be to come, you know, we have on the agenda c trick that as a backstop.

Later, the same executive said,

we would entertain the idea that accommodation volume resolve continue to go down as we on to tighten credit to fully over the high cost of pricing on the accommodation side.

Translation: We’ll use that $25 billion as a war chest to buy other banks, and hoard it in case times get tougher.

“Read that answer as many times as you want,” wrote NYT, “You are not going to find a single word in there about making loans to help the American economy.”

Furthermore, a new tax break allows banks to immediately deduct any losses they that are on the books of the banks they acquire.

What is the government doing to make banks use the money for loans? Apparently, jack, except for asking really really nicely. If this continues and banks don’t use their government handout to open up loans, this bailout will be the single greatest ripoff in American history, and those responsible are naive if they don’t think they’ll have a giant bloody revolution on their hands—and I mean that in the literal sense.

Bernanke and Paulson: Determined to keep their mistakes original

from brad delong: is 2008 our 1929? no. it is not. the most important explanation it is not is that bernanke and paulson are both focused like laser beams on not making the same mistakes as were made in 1929. they are also focused, but not moderately as much, on not making the mistakes made by arthur burns in the 1970s. and they are also focused, but not quite as much, on not making the mistakes the bank of japan made in the 1990s. they want to cope their own, novel, mistakes…

Science Confirms Enviromoonbat Hypocrisy

If you need any evidence that environmentalism is a shallow fad indulged in by liberal elite phonies who are only interested in token gestures for themselves even while they demand draconian sacrifices for everyone else, the Left’s own Guardian thoughtfully provides it. According to Stewart Barr of Exeter University:

unskilful living is largely something of a falsehood. there is this middle class environmentalism where being grassland is part of the desired image. but another part of the desired counterpart is to fly off skiing twice a year. and the carbon savings they make by not driving their kids to school will be obliterated by the pollution from their flights.

Barr and his fellow researchers found that “the longest and the most frequent flights were taken by those who were most aware of environmental issues.” Sanctimonious moonbats often go on trips to reward themselves for using pricey curlicue light bulbs or for tossing their champagne bottles in the recycling bin. Higher income was associated both with more trips and with more enviromoonbattery.

As Barr puts it:

the findings manifest that sedate those people who appear to be sheerest committed to environmental action identify it scabrous to transfer these behaviors into more problematic contexts.

In other words, they’re hypocrites. But in their defense, there is no need to actually sacrifice their own pleasures, since CO2 is not actually a threat to anyone. It’s gestures that count — like voting for liberals who will cripple the economy on behalf of the polar bears.
